The validated ledger

$3 billion in February 2025. $5 billion by June. $8 billion in December. $11 billion in March. $15.5 billion now. Five marks, five different lead investors, a 5x in nineteen months.3,4

What the company claims

80% of the Am Law 100 and five of the Fortune 10 use Harvey. Those are company figures from today's announcement2, not audited numbers, though independent coverage supports the footprint: a PacerPro docket-data integration, an open-source agent benchmark called LAB, even a Dallas office, all independently documented.7

The bull case, as investors tell it

Legal became the first profession to adopt AI wholesale, Harvey owns the workflow layer, and it just cut its dependence on frontier labs by building its own model, Tenet, on open weights.1,2 a16z's Andrew Chen frames where this goes: agents running whole departments.10

The bear case, as skeptics tell it

Rival Legora$5.55B — Legora, private, latest valuation $5.55B raised $550 million the same week.6 Anthropic's$350B — Anthropic, private, latest valuation $350B quick “Legal” plugin showed the big labs can walk in anytime. Legalweek attendees were setting odds on which vendors survive 24 months.6 Revenue has been catching up to the valuation: reported annualized revenue crossed $400 million the same week as this round, up from $100 million just thirteen months earlier, putting the $15.5 billion price at roughly 39 times revenue, against 7 to 10x for public software.11,12 That gap has narrowed sharply since last year and is still the debate, not a verdict.

The day's backdrop

An Anthropic researcher resigned over self-improving AI warnings while Bill Gurley and Chamath Palihapitiya urged calm and to carry on.9
