Bank of America doubles Marvell's credit line to $3 billion as AI shorts count $6 billion of paper profits
An 8-K filed October 23 shows a Bank of America-led syndicate committing five years of undrawn credit to Marvell at 0.875–1.5% over SOFR, double the old line and expandable to $5 billion, with a covenant drafted for a $500 million-plus deal. The AI financing-freeze short case now has to explain that page.

The bank desk lends where the short desk panics
On October 22, with AI infrastructure credit in free fall, Marvell Technology+1.49% — Marvell Technology, up 1.49 percent today, the custom AI-chip designer, signed a new revolving credit agreement with a syndicate run by Bank of America−0.79% — Bank of America, down 0.79 percent as of its last quote: $3 billion committed, five years, nothing drawn 1. The 8-K reached the SEC the next morning, the same day ORTEX pegged October paper profits for shorts in AI data-center stocks at about $6 billion, with CoreWeave−2.79% — CoreWeave, down 2.79 percent today, the GPU-rental bellwether, down roughly 36% and Nebius−0.83% — Nebius, down 0.83 percent today down 33% since September 30 2.
Marvell did not escape the rout either; its own shares fell 17.2% across five sessions into October 16 3.
The fine print expects a deal
The new line replaces a $1.5 billion revolver dated June 30, 2025, and doubles it, with an accordion to add $2 billion more and an option to extend a year 1. The covenant is the tell: leverage capped at 4.00 to 1.00, stepping up to 4.50 for the quarter Marvell closes an acquisition of at least $500 million, and the three quarters after 1. Nobody drafts that step-up for decoration, and the whole option costs 0.075–0.20% a year on unused capacity 1.

The freeze camp still has real ammunition
Demand has not vanished: Anthropic$350B — Anthropic, private, latest valuation $350B, the frontier AI lab, reported $16.8 billion of third-quarter revenue, up 45% from the second quarter, though growth has halved from 140% earlier in the year 4. An undrawn revolver is an option, not cash, and in a stress its lenders can terminate commitments and accelerate ahead of bondholders 1. Marvell also trades at 77.4 times trailing earnings on the fiscal 2028 target of about $20 billion The Inference covered it on October 6, a number that needs trailing revenue of $9.45 billion to double, and a Google warrant that could add roughly 59 million shares on top 356.

The first test lands on November 30
Marvell's fiscal quarter closes at the end of October and its report is expected on or around November 30, against guidance of $3.15 billion, plus or minus 5% 3. From there, two filings decide what the capacity is for: a draw on this revolver, or an acquisition big enough to trip the 4.50x step-up 1. Until one lands, the financing-freeze shorts have momentum across AI hardware, everywhere except the one page where a bank syndicate just signed five years against them 1.
