DXC Pays to License the Agent Harness Salesforce Will Bundle Free
On October 29 DXC cut FY27 guidance and confirmed it licenses LangChain to run its OASIS agents, the same harness Salesforce will bundle free from January 2027. A services company selling agent assurance is now paying for a layer its clients may soon get for nothing.

DXC Technology−6.66% — DXC Technology, down 6.66 percent today told investors on October 29 that it pays to license the layer that is about to be bundled free 1. On the same earnings call where it cut full-year guidance, CEO Raul Fernandez said DXC is "licensing LangChain$25M — LangChain, private, latest valuation $25M to support the development, evaluation, and observability of OASIS agents" 1. The same day, it guided FY27 revenue to $11.91–$11.98 billion against a $12.15 billion consensus 3. The stock closed at $15.23, down 5.34% 4.
DXC sells agent assurance built on a harness it buys, and Salesforce+0.54% — Salesforce, up 0.54 percent today will bundle that harness function into Agent Fabric free from January 2027, as we reported in "Salesforce Dates Its Bundled Eval Bench for January 2027, Right as LangChain Gives the Layer Below Away" on October 28 6. What is new since: this is the first time a buyer of that layer has disclosed to investors that it pays a license for it, and a fresh seed round now sells the same layer separately.
The harness layer is being absorbed by the platforms
The chain is short. Agentic AI needs a harness: the evaluation, observability and controls that make an agent safe in a regulated enterprise. That harness was a product, sold by specialists like LangChain. Platform vendors are absorbing it into bundles.
Where the layer becomes a free bundle feature, a license becomes a cost line: the undisclosed fee DXC pays LangChain is margin pressure its rivals that build or bundle the layer do not carry, if DXC keeps renting what others now ship 16. That is a reading, not a reported number; DXC did not disclose the price.
The core is shrinking faster than the AI story can grow
Bookings fell 10% to $2.4 billion, infrastructure revenue fell 10%, and only insurance grew, helped by a one-time contract modification 2. Fernandez's AI counters are real but small next to the core: OASIS agent utilization rose sixfold from last quarter and more than 5,700 colleagues have earned AI certifications since June 1.

His own customers describe the squeeze: Fernandez hears managers ask "can we look at an agentic way of doing it?" before approving traditional projects, and shorten contracts to two years 1.

Governance is becoming a product, and DXC rents it
The governance layer is not disappearing; it is being sold by new hands. Mintive, a startup founded by two ex-Google Brain engineers, raised a $7 million seed led by Cowboy Ventures and already serves 50 enterprise customers, in a field TechCrunch counts at 40-plus YC startups alone 5. DXC buys governance from LangChain and resells assurance around it 1; Mintive sells governance directly 5.
That is the position to price: DXC monetizes governed agents for clients while renting the governance layer, and its clients can increasingly get that layer bundled for nothing. What DXC can defend is its seat inside regulated workflows, the part its insurance and banking customers cannot buy from a bundler. Its guidance now depends on proving that value before the free bundles arrive 136.
