Fabrinet grew 51% and burned $137 million building for demand that arrives in 2028
Fabrinet posted its fastest growth in a decade and raised its build-out ceiling toward $16 billion, but free cash flow turned negative $137 million and the new capacity arrives only in mid-2028. The money is committed now; the walls are not.

Fabrinet+5.88% — Fabrinet, up 5.88 percent as of its last quote, the Thailand-based manufacturer that assembles the lasers and optics moving data inside AI data centers, reported fiscal first-quarter 2027 revenue of $1.474 billion on November 2, up 51% year over year and above its own guidance 13. Record non-GAAP earnings per share of $4.34 beat the $4.31 estimate, and the stock rose 12% after the close 13. Data center revenue grew 78% to $777 million, now 53% of the total 1.
That is the seventh straight quarter of accelerating growth. But the quarter's most consequential number was not revenue. It was concrete.
Building 11 got bigger before the walls went up
CEO Seamus Grady said construction of Building 11 at the Chonburi campus begins as soon as Building 10 is completed in January 1. The building is now sized at about 1.5 million square feet and roughly $3 billion of revenue capacity, up from the $2.1 billion management previously cited, because denser products lift revenue per square foot 1.
The new arithmetic: capacity ended fiscal 2026 near $5.8 billion, should enter 2027 around $10 billion, reaches $13 billion with Building 11, and a potential Building 12 takes the ceiling to $16 billion 1. Management had previously framed the full build-out at about $14 billion 1.

The bill lands before the capacity does
Free cash flow was negative $137 million 1. Capital spending hit $159 million, including a $77 million purchase of the Santa Clara campus, cash fell $119 million to $757 million, and the company borrowed about $75 million 1. Building 11 takes roughly 18 months to build and comes online around mid-2028, and Grady said the company is already "actively looking" for land and existing factories to bridge the gap 1. Meanwhile the December-quarter guide calls for $1.6 to $1.65 billion of revenue, 43% growth at the midpoint 1.

The Street cut the target while keeping the faith
Barclays−0.26% — Barclays, down 0.26 percent as of its last quote kept its Overweight rating but cut its price target 33%, to $496 from $739, still implying 36.5% upside from the November 3 close of $363.33 2. Targets across the last five analyst notes run $364 to $600 2. That spread is the debate in one line: nobody doubts the growth; the argument is what multiple a business with negative free cash flow and a 2028 capacity date deserves 2.
The customer list consolidated underneath the quarter
Hours before the call, Marvell+7.17% — Marvell, up 7.17 percent today agreed to buy Lumentum, both Fabrinet customers, in a $115 billion all-stock deal expected to close in the first half of 2028 4. Grady had seen no terms and leaned on precedent: past optical consolidation, Lumentum+7.59% — Lumentum, up 7.59 percent today with NeoPhotonics among them, ultimately grew Fabrinet's business with the combined entity 1.
Precedent is not assurance. When a customer base of a few giants merges, the merged giant negotiates as one. The Inference's November 2 preview asked whether supply, not demand, would cap this quarter; components are still "in tight supply across the board," and Grady says Fabrinet could ship more if it had more parts 1.
What decides it from here
Watch whether revenue keeps compounding faster than the walls rise. If the roughly $10 billion of expected 2027 capacity fills before Building 11 opens in mid-2028, the "actively looking" hunt for interim space turns from caution into urgency 1. Demand "as far as the eye can see" is management's claim 1; negative $137 million is on the page.
