Power Integrations fell 15.3% despite a $0.05 profit beat: 11.8 weeks of unsold chips decide the trade

A $0.05 earnings beat, then a 15.3% one-day loss in the AI rout. The fight is over a number the press release buried: 11.8 weeks of chips sitting in the sales channel, against data-center revenue that arrives in 2027 and later.

Power Integrations+3.66% — Power Integrations, up 3.66 percent today beat its own profit line and the market sold it anyway. The San Jose maker of high-voltage power-conversion chips reported Q3 non-GAAP earnings of $0.46 a share on November 4, $0.05 above consensus, on revenue of $125.47 million that came in a hair under estimates 12.

The next day, a sector-wide rout of AI-adjacent chip names took the stock down 15.3% to $39.64, cutting its market value to $2.2 billion, part of a selloff that knocked seven peers down between 7.7% and 18.5% 5. Two brokers cut price targets in the week with no offsetting upgrades 5.

The number the wire stories skipped

The earnings-call transcript holds the figure that decides this trade: channel inventory, the unsold chips sitting with distributors and end customers. It jumped 4.5 weeks in one quarter, from 7.3 weeks to 11.8, against the company's own 8-week target 3.

CFO Nancy Erba split the build three ways. Weak Chinese appliance sell-through needs one to two quarters to clear, delayed metering projects in India need two to three, and a newer, less predictable driver has appeared: end customers ordering buffer stock because they see shortages elsewhere in the supply chain 3.

Management conceded the glut could sit at 9 to 10 weeks through 2027 3.

Where the money is dated

The bull case is real, but its revenue arrives in 2027-2029 while the inventory cost lands this quarter 3. The data-center pipeline more than tripled since the start of 2026; four 800-volt socket design-ins, sockets reserved in a customer's product design, enter production in 2027 3.

Gallium nitride (GaN), the wide-bandgap chip material that switches power more efficiently than silicon, drove record revenue on track for 2026 3. The 1,250-volt GaN line for main power paths samples in 2027 and rolls out in 2028-29 3. The solid-state circuit-breaker project with Ideal Power, pairing Power Integrations' 1,700-volt InnoMux chip with Ideal Power's B-TRAN bidirectional switch, is at early prototype stage 6.

Revenue recovered through 2026 to a $125.5 million high, with Q4 2025 the one dip, and gross margin reached 55.2% 37. The bulls' exhibits: $37 million of quarterly free cash flow, $288 million of cash and investments, and a dividend rising to $0.22 a share for 2027 23.

The bears' exhibits: consumer, a third of sales, fell 7% sequentially on appliance weakness tied to housing and tariff-inflated prices, and the Q4 revenue guide of $118-126 million sits below the $124.4 million consensus 31. Needham cut its target to $65 from $80 yet kept Buy, arguing the inventory build is nuanced rather than broad demand deterioration 4.

At $39.64, buyers are betting the channel clears faster than management's 9-to-10-week scenario; sellers are betting buffer stock unwinds into 2027. Both sides wait on the same readings: quarterly channel weeks, appliance sell-through, and the Indian metering ramp.

What to watch

The Investor Day on March 8, 2027, carries the plan to double the serviceable available market (SAM), the revenue the company can currently compete for 3. Until then, the tell is simple: whether channel weeks fall toward 8 or stick at 9 to 10 3.

Nvidia asked TSMC to make memory. TSMC said no, and the answer runs through ASML's order book

The world's largest chipmaker publicly refused Nvidia's request to plan 3D DRAM production, leaving memory density to Samsung, SK hynix and Micron. Those three buy their lithography from one company, ASML, whose 2027 and 2028 output is already spoken for.

SiTime tripled revenue to $298.7 million and the market still cut it 60%

The chipmaker whose silicon clocks keep AI data centers synchronized posted the strongest quarter of the AI trade and still lost 60 percent of its value from September [3]. Friday's 17 percent snapback now has to prove itself before a 3-for-1 split resets every price on the chart.

Ultra Clean sold its own stock at $80 to fund the AI tool boom, and the market now bids $41

The chip-parts supplier financed the best quarter in its history through an at-the-market program that has sold 2.6 million of its own shares for about $203 million. With $193.2 million still to sell into a capacity build toward $4 billion of annual revenue, the fall to $41.10 roughly doubles the dilution cost of every remaining dollar.

TOWA doubled profit and raised its dividend; Tokyo still marked it down 4.9%

TOWA, the Kyoto maker of chip-packaging molds, doubled half-year profit, raised its forecast and lifted its dividend on November 6. Its Tokyo shares still closed lower, and they are down 45.58% in six months; Monday, November 9 is the first full session to price the new numbers.

A third-party benchmark showed IBM's commercial quantum chip beating an exascale supercomputer, and its most advanced machine went live in Chicago, yet IBM fell 1.73% while narrative-led IonQ rose 8.95%. The market is pricing optimism, not the dated 2028 revenue line only IBM carries.
