Vertiv rose 7% on Nvidia's 14-day AI factory design, but 17 partners including Eaton build the same box

Nvidia's DSX POD standard, unveiled at GTC Berlin, cuts AI factory deployment to as little as 14 days and helped end Vertiv's record 11-session losing streak. But Eaton, Schneider Electric and 14 other partners build the same box, and the October 28 backlog print prices what sharing it costs.

Vertiv chief executive Giordano Albertazzi, whose company put its DSX POD pitch in his own words at GTC Berlin: an AI factory earns its return in tokens.

The losing streak broke on Nvidia's stage

Vertiv−7.59% — Vertiv, down 7.59 percent today, the Ohio maker of power and cooling gear for data centers, rose more than 7% to $218.98 in early trading on October 21, valuing it near $84.3 billion 1. The gain ended 11 straight down sessions, the longest losing streak in the stock's history 217. The spark was Nvidia's DSX POD design, unveiled at GTC Berlin that morning 2, though wires also credited strong SpaceX−6.39% — SpaceX, down 6.39 percent today and Super Micro−5.38% — Super Micro, down 5.38 percent today results from the night before 17.

A modeled 30 percent on a blueprint 17 firms share

DSX POD is a reference design for whole factories built around Nvidia's−3.95% — Nvidia, down 3.95 percent today coming Vera Rubin AI systems: partners assemble and validate the units in containers, and Nvidia says a prepared site goes from six months of installation to as little as 14 days, with deliveries from early 2027 2.

Vertiv's added math: pre-engineered designs configured in a Dassault Systèmes virtual twin, then factory-built modules, cut design plus deployment from about 120 days to 48, worth up to 30% more cumulative token output in year one at the same installed capacity 37. All of it is modeled, none is measured in a running plant, and none converts directly into Vertiv revenue 37.

Polar Data Centers is applying the approach to the first 41 megawatts of its Herøya campus in Norway, scalable to 100 megawatts 3. The standard also arms Vertiv's rivals: Nvidia names 17 builders, among them Eaton−6.40% — Eaton, down 6.40 percent today and Schneider Electric, its direct competitors in power and cooling, and Johnson Controls is engineering Armada's planned 500 megawatts on the same design 249. Polar is itself expanding with Crusoe, another named partner, at a second Norwegian campus 5.

October 28 prices what sharing costs

The rally landed on a week of cuts with no downgrades: RBC to $323, Mizuho to $280, Morgan Stanley−1.52% — Morgan Stanley, down 1.52 percent today to $330, all ratings kept, while Bank of America+0.44% — Bank of America, up 0.44 percent today held $375, and only GLJ Research, at Sell with $188, sits below the market 67. The bull case is the multiple: near $206, Vertiv traded around 26 times forward earnings, in line with Eaton and far below GE Vernova−10.82% — GE Vernova, down 10.82 percent today at 44 6.

Trane buys its own coil supplier the day Nvidia promises near-zero-water AI factories

Trane Technologies agreed on October 21 to buy Cancoil Thermal, the family firm that already supplies its heat-rejection coils, the same day Nvidia showcased an AI-factory blueprint it says needs almost no water. Both announcements value the same layer: the hardware that carries heat out of the building.

Corning just bet $585 million that the AI fiber shortage lasts for years

Corning will spend $585 million and add 414 jobs at the Wilmington, North Carolina campus that made the world's first optical fiber. Because the new capacity ramps in phases to 2028, it is a wager that the AI fiber shortage endures, placed five days before the October 27 earnings test.
