AMD guided Q4 to $17 billion as data center sales nearly doubled, and $4.7 billion of debt funds the ramp
Data center revenue nearly doubled to $8.55 billion and AMD guided the fourth quarter to about $17 billion, but the same release shows gross margin missing AMD's own target and a $554 million free-cash-flow quarter fed by $4.7 billion of new debt.

The demand half is real
AMD+8.56% — AMD, up 8.56 percent today cleared every bar the AI trade set. Third-quarter revenue was $13.38 billion, up 45%, with $2.09 of adjusted earnings against $1.95 expected 1. Data center nearly doubled to a record $8.55 billion, 64% of the company against 47% a year ago 1, and the release names who is running the first Helios racks, AMD's answer to Nvidia's+1.62% — Nvidia, up 1.62 percent today rack-scale systems: Anthropic$350B — Anthropic, private, latest valuation $350B, Meta+1.60% — Meta, up 1.60 percent today, Microsoft+1.57% — Microsoft, up 1.57 percent today, OpenAI$1.18T — OpenAI, private, latest valuation $1.18T and Oracle+4.38% — Oracle, up 4.38 percent today 3.
The fourth-quarter guide of about $17 billion implies 66% annual growth, 4.4% above consensus 34. The stock rose as much as 11.6% after hours 2. The market, said Patrick Moorhead, founder of Moor Insights & Strategy, had "copy and pasted Intel's+0.13% — Intel, up 0.13 percent today PC warning on AMD" when AMD "just showed it's a data center company with a PC business" 5.
The margin nobody quotes
Non-GAAP gross margin printed at 55.94%, below the roughly 56% guide and the 56.11% Street consensus, the first miss of AMD's own target since late 2025 6. The fourth-quarter guide is 55%, under the 55.3% consensus, a second straight sequential decline as lower-margin MI450 racks become a bigger share of sales 31. GAAP earnings of $1.46 also carry a $1.10 billion non-cash charge for revaluing warrants issued to certain customers, a line that swings with AMD's own share price 3.
The ramp is borrowed
Free cash flow was $554 million, a 4.1% margin versus 20.6% a year earlier and well below the $1.05 billion analysts expected 74. The cash went into the ramp: inventory rose $3.0 billion in the quarter to $11.46 billion, 24 days of inventory above the five-year average, and receivables added $1.9 billion 34.
AMD covered it with $2.3 billion more in payables and $4.7 billion of fresh debt, bought back no stock, and finished with total debt of $7.08 billion, more than double a year ago 3. Operating cash flow fell to $1.2 billion from $1.8 billion even as net income nearly doubled 10. The demand is real; so is the invoice.
Total debt jumped $2.8 billion in the quarter to $7.08 billion

What 42 times earnings must survive
The bull case is on the record. Chief executive Lisa Su told analysts server revenue will double in 2027, data center AI growth is running ahead of what AMD projected 90 days ago, and the company has secured wafers, substrates, advanced packaging and memory for a bigger next year 1. Consensus sees earnings rising from $7.62 this year to $16.01 in 2027, and the stock trades at 42 times forward earnings against a five-year average of 35 8.
The tell now is whether the 55% margin guide holds and whether $11.5 billion of parts becomes revenue rather than write-downs, the same cash-conversion test Credo faces on a smaller scale 2. The memory makers supplying that build hold the demand receipt either way 2. Nvidia reports on November 17 2.
