Penguin Solutions' record fiscal year had negative $152 million cash flow: insiders sold $4.4 million
Record fiscal Q4 sales of $566.7 million, memory sales up 99%, and a fiscal 2027 guide of about $2.43 billion, but operating cash flow ran negative $152 million for the year and insiders sold $4.4 million of stock without a single buy.

Penguin Solutions−8.17% — Penguin Solutions, down 8.17 percent today closed its fiscal year with the loudest print of its life and a stock that still sits about a third below its high. The San Jose company behind SMART Modular memory modules and its Argo AI-computing platform reported record fiscal Q4 net sales of $566.7 million, up 68% year over year, with diluted EPS of $1.29 against $0.11 a year earlier 14. It then raised its fiscal 2027 sales outlook to about $2.43 billion at midpoint, roughly 40% growth 1. The 10-K, filed October 20, shows the engine: Integrated Memory sales rose about 99% for the year, on AI buyers paying up for DRAM and flash 2.
Memory, not compute, carried the year
The segment lines tell an uncomfortable story for a company rebranded as "the AI Factory Platform Company." Integrated Memory did $924.0 million of fiscal 2026 sales against $464.2 million the year before, while Advanced Computing, the headline AI-infra business, fell to $558.8 million from $648.4 million 24. Its customer mix shifted away from hyperscalers toward non-hyperscaler AI buyers, the neocloud class whose financing the credit market has been questioning all month 2. Growth accelerated from flat in the first half to 48% in fiscal Q3 and 68% in fiscal Q4 4.

The complication: record profit, negative cash
Operating income rose 458% to $69.5 million in Q4 1. Yet fiscal 2026 operating cash flow was negative $151.9 million, against a positive $109.1 million the year before 4. Inventories nearly tripled to $748.8 million and receivables jumped to $796.3 million, while the 10-K flags a fab-light supply model and stretched component lead times 24. Penguin also closed $750 million of 0% convertible notes due 2031, adding a dilution overhang 4. The market is pricing it: shares rose 3.7% to $58.38 on October 21, still far below the $89.86 52-week high, GuruFocus's model puts fair value at $26.39, and insiders sold $4.4 million of stock over the past year without a single buy 3.

Watch the cash conversion, not the guide
The FY27 guide, about $2.43 billion plus or minus 10 points, is the first assembler-level fiscal 2027 number of the season, and it lands mid-selloff in the AI credit trade 1. Watch the cash conversion. If inventory keeps climbing faster than sales, the memory-price raise is timing, not durable volume, and the non-hyperscaler customer book is a receivable waiting to stretch. If Penguin turns the $1.5 billion of working capital back into cash while holding 40% growth, the sellers were wrong 24.
